The Five-Step Commission Process

  • The commission process starts with obtaining a quality photo of your subject(s) which will be used as a reference photo. It is best to send several photos (if possible) in order to review the subject in varying lighting conditions and positions.

  • Pricing is primarily based on canvas size.  The most common canvas sizes are as follows:

    11x14 - $425.00

    12x16 - $525.00

    16x20 - $725.00

    20x24 - $975.00

    20x30 – $1075.00

    24x36 – $1425.00
    (Other sizes are available)

Paintings with multiple subjects will require a canvas size of at least 16x20 to capture the finer details.

  • All portraits will be painted in oil on top quality linen stretched canvas. You are welcome to help make decisions regarding your painting like selecting the background color or accent colors. Photo updates of your painting “on the easel” will be sent periodically during the process to ensure your vision is being captured. Questions about the process are always welcome. Most oil paintings can be completed in about three weeks once the painting has been started. Larger paintings will take a little longer. Oil paints take longer to dry than water-based acrylic paints. Once the painting is dry, two coats of protective spray varnish will be applied to your painting and you can decide on a gloss or matte finish.  After the painting is completed, the varnishing process generally takes an additional week or so.

  • The quoted price is the price you pay, there are no add-on or extra costs. Payment is not made until your painting is finished and you are satisfied with the results. To date, Danny Holder Fine Art has not had any rejections.

  • Your painting will need to be totally dry prior to delivery. Shipping to the lower 48 United States is complimentary/free. Shipping outside the contiguous US will be calculated and applied to the quoted price. *Local pickup at the studio is available for those within driving distance.
